The Amazing Wings of Eagles Discovery Center
The thrilling life of the fighter pilot has long been a daydream of children and adults alike. Piloting these powerful machines, brave fliers took on some of the most daunting missions in history, not knowing if they would return home safely or at all. Their contributions and the machines in which they made them are honored and preserved at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Horseheads, New York.
The center has an impressive collection of some of the most well-known fighter aircraft of the 20th Century as well as missiles, a space shuttle replica and many flight simulators that give visitors a taste of what it’s like to be at the controls themselves. Prop planes from the 1920’s are here for the viewing as are examples of the enormously powerful fighter jets that came to dominate air warfare in the last half of the 20th Century, including the legendary F-14 Tomcat. Helicopters are represented as well, with the famous “Huey” having a place among the many marvels of engineering housed at this museum.
